Week 28: How Do You Recognize the Voice of Jesus?
Carlo Gucilatar   -

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10.11)

In John 10, Jesus uses two powerful images to describe himself: the Gate and the Good Shepherd. Why does he use both? And what do these pictures reveal about who he is and what it means to belong to him?

Carlo and Joemel explore Jesus’ teaching in John 10 and discover how this passage builds on the healing of the man born blind in John 9. They discuss why Jesus is the only way into God’s flock, what it means to hear the Shepherd’s voice, and how Jesus’ sacrificial love sets him apart from every false shepherd.

Highlights from this episode:

  1. Why comparing Bible translations can help you understand Scripture
  2. How Jesus is both the Gate and the Good Shepherd
  3. How to recognize and follow the Shepherd’s voice

Listener question this week:

  • In John 10.33, the religious leaders want to stone Jesus because they say he is “claiming to be God.” But then in verses 34-38 Jesus quotes Psalm 82 and talks about other people being called “gods.” Was Jesus claiming to be God, or was he denying it?

We want to invite you into the conversation! Each week, we’ll respond to questions you send in. If you’re participating in the reading plan, ask your question by sending an email to andrew@paseodelrey.org.
