Week 36: Don’t Grow Weary and Lose Heart (Hebrews 12)
  -

“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12.1-2)

Following Jesus is a long race. There will be seasons when we grow weary, encounter hardship, and are tempted to lose heart. This is not a modern challenge. The early Christians faced it too. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that the solution is simple: fix our eyes on Jesus and consider how he endured.

In this episode, Andrew and Shelton explore Hebrews 12.1-17 to learn what it has to teach us about following Jesus for the long haul. What does it take to persevere? Why does God allow his children to experience hardship? And how can understanding hardship as discipline change the way we respond when life gets difficult?

Highlights from this episode:

  1. How to fix your eyes on Jesus and run with perseverance
  2. Why hardship can be evidence of God’s love and work in our lives
  3. How God uses discipline to shape us

Listener question this week:

  • What does it mean that Jesus is the “atoning sacrifice” for the sins of the “whole world”? Does that mean everyone is saved? (1 John 2.1-2)
