Week 38: Things You Must Remember (2 Peter 1)
  -

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (2 Peter 1.3)

Near the end of his life, the apostle Peter wrote his final words to his fellow believers. He knew he would not have a chance to speak with them again. Instead of giving them new teaching, Peter focused on making sure they would always remember what matters most: God has given us everything we need for a godly life. And because of that, we should make every effort to grow.

Andrew and Shelton discuss 2 Peter 1.1-15 and Peter’s call to an active, growing faith. What does it mean to “participate in the divine nature”? How do qualities like goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, affection, and love become more and more evident in our lives? And how does Peter make sure we always remember these things?

  1. God has given us everything we need for godly living
  2. Why we must “make every effort” to grow
  3. The amazing promises of 2 Peter 1

Listener question this week:

  • How do we avoid arguments and quarrels that are “unprofitable and useless”? And what is the best way to deal with people who are always stirring the pot? (Titus 3.8-10)

We want to invite you into the conversation! Each week, we’ll respond to questions you send in. If you’re participating in the reading plan, ask your question by sending an email to andrew@paseodelrey.org.
