Week 39: The Apostle Paul’s Final Words (2 Timothy 2)
“The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2.2)
Near the end of his life, the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, a younger believer he had invested in for years. Paul knew his own life was drawing to a close, and he challenged Timothy to remain strong in Christ and faithfully pass on what he had received to others.
Dave Geerdes joins Andrew on this week’s podcast to explore 2 Timothy 2.1-8 and the picture Paul gives us of a faith that moves from one generation to the next. What does it mean to be strong in the grace of Jesus? Who are the people we should be investing in? And what do Paul’s examples of a soldier, athlete, and farmer teach us about the commitment required to faithfully follow Jesus?
Highlights from this episode:
- How discipleship moves faith from one generation to the next
- What the soldier, athlete, and farmer teach us about following Jesus
- Why our effort and sacrifice must center on Jesus
Listener question this week:
- Who were Jannes and Jambres, the men who opposed Moses? They don’t seem to appear in the Bible. (2 Timothy 3.8-9)
