Week 42: Why Christians Live Under a New Covenant (Jeremiah 31)
“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” (Jeremiah 31.33)
At perhaps the lowest moment in their history, God gives the people of Israel an extraordinary promise: He tells them he is going to establish a New Covenant; one that will fundamentally change how they relate to him. Centuries before Jesus arrives, Jeremiah foretells that there will be a new way of knowing God, experiencing his forgiveness, and living as his people.
Andrew and Shelton dive into Jeremiah 31.23–37 to explore one of the most important themes in the Bible: that God works through covenants. They explain what a covenant is and then break down how the New Covenant differs from the Old Covenant God established through Moses. And they share how something as familiar as a computer’s operating system can help us understand what Jesus has accomplished and what it means for us today.
Highlights from this episode:
- Why understanding biblical covenants helps us make sense of the Old and New Testaments
- How the New Covenant transforms our relationship with God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit
- How promises that God made to Israel matter for those of us who follow Jesus today
