Week 26: What Does It Mean to Worship in Spirit and Truth?
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth…” (John 4.23)
Jesus’ conversation with the woman at the well is one of the most remarkable encounters in the Gospels. He crossed cultural, ethnic, religious, and personal barriers to reveal who he is and invite an unlikely person into a relationship with God.
Andrew and Ashley explore John 4 and discuss what this conversation teaches us about the character of Jesus. Why did Jesus speak with the Samaritan woman? What did he mean by “living water”? And what does it look like to worship God in spirit and truth?
Highlights from this episode:
- Why understanding setting changes the way we read the Bible
- The barriers Jesus crossed to reach the Samaritan woman
- What is living water and how do we worship God in spirit and truth?
Listener question this week:
- What were the “high places” in the Old Testament, and why were faithful kings instructed to tear them down? How does this help us understand Jesus’ teaching about worship in John 4?
